Varanasi to host first 3-day G20 Summit of the Agriculture Working Group from April 17-19.

Varanasi is hosting a 3-day G20 summit 19. Representatives from the 20 leading countries of the world and delegates from other partner countries will participate in the meeting^. The main meeting will be held at Hotel Taj². There will be a total of 6  G20 meetings in Varanasi.

History of G20 Summits.

The G20 or Group of 20 is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union (EU). It works to address major issues related to the global economy, such as international financial stability, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development. The G20 was founded in 1999 in response to several world economic crises. Since 2008, it has convened at least once a year, with summits involving each member’s head of government or state, finance minister, or foreign minister, and other high-ranking officials; the EU is represented by the European Commission and the European Central Bank¹.

The G20 summit is significant because it brings together representatives from the 20 leading countries of the world and delegates from other partner countries to discuss important global issues. Role of India in this summit

India is hosting the G20 summit this year. The theme of the G20 Indian Presidency is ‘One Earth, One Family and One Future’, which celebrates the spirit of togetherness and harmony amongst us to ensure a bright future for the world. As the host country, India plays a significant role in setting the agenda for the summit and facilitating discussions among the member countries.

Delegates attending Summit.

With the motto of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” India is hosting the G20 this year. There will be about 80 foreign delegates from G20 countries including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the European Union will attend the events in Varanasi.

Preparations at Varanasi for this summit

The first of these meetings is starting on April 17. For this, on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the entire city has been decorated beautifully. Along with this, tight security arrangements have been made. The main meeting of the G20 will be held at Hotel Taj. After this, there will also be a program of Kashi tour for the guests, which mainly includes boating programs in Ganga on Cruise, Sarnath the abode of Lord Buddha. In addition, G20 delegates will also participate in the world-famous Ganga Aarti at Kashi. Guests from all over the world will also see the skills of the traditional handicraftsmen of Kashi.

Topics discussed at summit

The summit will focus on promoting nutritious foods, food security and environment-friendly farming to keep the whole world healthy. On the first day of the summit, there will be an opening of the Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS) 2023, Sustainable Agri-food System for Healthy People and Planet. The first session of the meeting will be on Food Security and Nutrition: Role of Science, Technology and Innovation and the second session will be on ‘Resilient Agri-Food System’. On the second day, there will be a session on ‘Digital Agriculture and Sustainable Agri Value Chain’ and on ‘Public Private Partnership in Agriculture R&D: Perspective from Developed and Developing Countries.
